Trauma Informed Attachment Aware Schools (TIAAS)

Whole-school training package for schools to equip staff with new knowledge enabling them to develop ‘trauma-informed practice’.

This whole-school package will support schools to develop ‘trauma-informed practice’ where the most vulnerable children are able to recover from trauma. Through participating in this programme, staff are equipped with skills which enable them to apply trauma and attachment aware strategies in school based upon current and up to date theory and research. Evidence suggests that attachment awareness in adults can lead to increased self-regulation in children (and adults).

A key element within the programme is “Emotion Coaching”, an evidence-based whole-school approach towards responding to children’s emotions promoting positive relationships. Emotion Coaching helps children to become more aware of their emotions and to manage their own strong feelings and emotions.

The Trauma Informed Attachment Aware Schools (TIAAS) programme involves:

  • whole staff training and access to further training and workshops
  • ongoing access to network meetings and CPD opportunities with other TIAAS schools
  • Educational Psychologists supporting your school’s SLT to embed these approaches
  • becoming a part of the Attachment Research Community (ARC) to measure progress
  • opportunity to work towards Bronze, Silver and Gold TIAAS certification to recognise and celebrate your school’s progress on this journey

Visit Birmingham Education Support Services for further information on how to sign up for this training.
