Being Myself Care Package

For students, being themselves means being comfortable with who they are, and many describe it as a feeling of not having to ‘pretend’ or ‘fake it’ to fit in. It involves students feeling safe to express their thoughts, feelings and ideas. When students feel able to be fully themselves, this contributes to belonging and school connectedness. Here are some resources below designed to get you thinking about and applying strategies to support students in ‘being themselves’.

Want to get a larger group of people on board, thinking collectively about authenticity for pupils, why it is important and ways to explore this within the confines of the curriculum? Here is an interactive staff meeting for all staff that can be adapted for your context. This can be delivered by mental health/pastoral/SEND lead or anyone that feels confident guiding this material. Take a little time to read it through and digest before facilitating. Guidance for the facilitator is on page 2 of the presentation. Timing is approx 1.5 hours but you could adjust.
