Samaritans Awareness Day – 24/7

National Samaritans Day 2025: 24/7 – Here to Listen ❤️

Each year on 24 July, National Samaritans Day—also known as Samaritans Awareness Day—reminds us that emotional support is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week  . On Thursday, 24 July 2025, communities across the UK will unite to raise awareness, raise funds, and shine a light on the importance of listening .

Why This Day Matters

This day emphasises that no one should face their darkest moments alone. As mental health challenges and suicidal thoughts can arise at any time, Samaritans volunteers stand ready to listen, without judgment or time limits  . In an era when 1 in 4 people experience mental health struggles yearly  , this day underscores the power of empathy and compassionate presence.

How You Can Play a Part

  • Listen actively: Checking in with a loved one—asking “How are you, really?”—can create vital space for them to open up.

  • Raise funds: Bake sales, sponsored walks, or coffee mornings can help keep the 24/7 helpline running  .

  • Boost visibility: Use the hashtag #SamaritansAwarenessDay on social media to share reminders, resources, and hope  .

Spotlight on Samaritans

Founded in 1953 by Chad Varah, the Samaritans pioneered the world’s first 24/7 emotional support line  . Today, thousands of trained volunteers across the UK and Ireland provide confidential listening by phone, email, web chat, and in person.

A Simple Truth

You don’t need all the answers—just your presence matters. Today serves as a call to embrace empathy and let those in pain know: “I’m here for you, anytime.”

📅 Mark your calendar: Take time on 24 July 2025 to listen, share, and support the vital work of Samaritans. Together, we can help change the course of someone’s life, simply by being there.
